Bangun – Penang Clan Jetties Community Arts Project is a multi-media community arts festival to be held on and around the Clan Jetties of Penang. The aim of the project is to actualise the local communities’ involvement in an arts festival featuring performance, installations, photography, music and exhibitions with the main focus on the Clan Jetties of Penang. This would lead to the development of skills and ideas for future art programs to be run (annually) that would promote the development and maintenance of a “living museum” based upon the unique cultural heritage of the Clan Jetties yet integrated with 21st Century technologies, skills and outlook.
This festival is supported by the Penang State Government.
The columnists escpecially from the Chinese Press praise this event and rated it as successful. The project is supervised by YB Wong Hon Wai.

黃漢偉：支持團體及活動‧大馬應將藝術普及化

（檳城）熱鬧了一週，“Bangun橋裝藝術祭－姓氏橋藝術計劃2009”前晚（8月30日）正式舉行開幕儀式，並邀請了掌管檳州藝術事務委員會的黃漢偉主持。
藝術與平民有隔閡
剛從台灣考察歸國的黃漢偉說，相對其他國家，馬來西亞的藝術市場是非常低落的。在國人的觀念里，藝術是高尚的，或者是有錢又有閑者的玩意，藝術往往就跟平民百姓起了隔閡。
“在配合經濟的發展，商品經濟大潮衝擊著社會生活的所有領域，而首當其沖的就是藝術。由於非實用性，所以它可隨著經濟不景氣而消失，檳州政府希望把檳城打造成為藝術之都，要如何把文化藝術融合在經濟市場內，這對於州政府來說，無疑是一大挑戰。”
他說，姓周橋上這場結合本地、印尼、台灣、意大利、英國、澳洲及日本等地的藝術家，一同在姓氏橋上以當地的歷史、文化及地理進行互動式的創作坊、表演和展覽，讓外人可以學習之余，亦可以進一步的瞭解更多姓氏橋。
他認為，馬來西亞需要主辦更多藝術教育的活動，也應該扶持及支持有素質的藝術家或團體，這樣才能讓我們的國家有前進藝術及普及藝術。
黃漢偉也透露，他在台北時適逢當地正在舉行一項命名為“藝立台北”的國際藝術節，展演的地點都是在台北的街頭巷尾，而不是在藝術館內，目的就是要讓更多的平民百姓可以參與，將藝術普及化！
檳政府願推動藝術活動
他鼓勵更多的藝術工作者或團體，日後若有意思在喬治市古蹟區進行社區藝術活動，檳州政府十分願意推一把。
“我們要一起努力，把檳城變成一個藝術氣息濃郁的國際城市。”
出席這項活動者，尚包括大會贊助人拿督黃繼梁、彭加蘭哥打區州議員劉敬億等。
